Sonic and the Secret Rings — Review

Read review of Sonic and the Secret RingsFrom its incongruous RPG-style leveling up to its endless recycling of levels to its utterly ridiculous Arabian Nights-themed story, Sonic and the Secret Rings feels horribly padded from top to bottom. To top it off, the sloppy controls make the game way harder than it should be. There might be a serviceable game buried somewhere in here, but I don't think it's worth anyone's time to try and find it.

The Rub Rabbits! — Review

The Rub Rabbits! from Sega is the sequel to 2004's Feel the Magic: XY/XX. At the time, Magic was the most creative example of integrating the variety of ways the Nintendo DS's hardware could function. Although it was short and a little unbalanced, Magic had striking visuals and a truly bizarre sensibility. The Rub Rabbits! carries on the traditions faithfully and provides more of the same.

Sonic Gems Collection — Review

Sonic Gems Collection basically dares its audience to ask one question: does merely being old qualify a game for 'classic' status, or did the game have to be good in the first place? Sonic Gems offers three previously unrereleased Sonic games, as well as eight other 'bonus' titles, bringing the grand total up to 11. See, I used to think Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg was a bad Sega game, but that was only until I played Sonic Heroes. Now, I see lil' Billy as a virtual masterpiece by comparison, practically the digital equivalent of a Guernica, or Starry Night. Why? Because Sonic Heroes has so much wrong with it, that three lefts couldn't make it right.

Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg — Review

That torturous, fickle experience I just alluded to combines with a lack of engaging play mechanics to create Billy Hatcher And The Giant Egg. A simplistic, by-the-numbers 3D platformer with inspiration taken from Sonic The Hedgehog, Billy Hatcher ends up lagging behind the genre's top games by a wide margin despite its novel concept.
