The shooting in the first 3 Uncharted are among the worst examples of cover shooters.

Gears does love its bullet sponges, which you can see as them figuring out a solution to console shooters. It is very hard for me to come at it with fresh eyes, given that I’ve been playing these games since the first, but I think I can understand why it might irritate/annoy people used to newer games or PC games.

Anyways, glad you got it cheap and it didn’t overstay its welcome.

I think I tried the Horde mode once or twice. I was just never into the shooting mechanics that much, so Horde mode held no appeal to me.

Your comparison to Uncharted is a good one, as I hated those games. Gears 5 definitely feels like something in a similar vein, but is much better simply due to being co-op.

But I just really was not impressed. I guess I’m glad the game was as short as it was, so we could finish the campaign and not feel like we wasted a lot of time getting to the end.

To be honest, there isn’t really anything else in the cover shooter genre anymore to compare Gears to (I mean, Uncharted maybe). It very much has its own set of verbs and that is it.

The reason I am still playing it has mainly to do with my partner and her sister being really into the Horde mode. It is the only thing they want to play
